kadri — spun & woven by hand in Srinagar, Kashmir — the birthplace of cashmere. Born from a 5th generation family business and 800 years of vernacular craft centred around the Jammu & Kashmir region in the north of India.
Evolving ancient techniques for today, each handmade piece celebrates the region of Kashmir through graphic expressions of bold colour and line, in a radical break from old world notions of traditional pashmina.
Entirely handwoven, kadri blankets, throws, quilts, carpets and scarves are also handspun by women — a true rarity resulting in the softest, finest cashmere that breathes and ‘blossoms’ over time. Between weaving, spinning, dying, printing, hand-painting and embroidery, a network of artisans in Kashmir represents a cottage industry of close to 2,000 workers, many of whom work from home.
kadri cashmere fibre is hand-combed from Changthangi goats in Ladakh on the Tibetan Plateau. They are a rare breed, prized for producing the top 1% of the world’s finest cashmere.
